As we were driving home, we passed Ragged Point and talked about what a wonderful view they have! When you were at the Henry Miller Library, you were just south of the Phoenix, Cafe Kevah, Nepenthe complex that I dearly love! I never want to leave when we are there. San Juan Bautista is a sweet little town, isn’t it? Jim and a bunch of his friends once rode their bikes there from San Jose – about a hundred years ago! We are so lucky to live on/near the CA coast!

Healdsburg is a lovely little town, but expensive! We stayed at the Calderwood Inn, a short walk from town. Loved the farmer’s market on Saturday morning and then went to a friend’s wine crush/bottling party later in the day in Sebastapol. What a beautiful weekend it was.

I misspoke above about our timing. We drove only to the southern edge of the Big Sur (from Topanga) on Thursday, spending the night in Ragged Point. Then drove up through the Big Sur on Friday, stopping at the Henry Miller Library and other spots before heading over to the freeway and driving north…where we saw the traffic, but not you!

Driving home on Sunday, we stopped in San Juan Bautista. I love that little town and the setting of the Mission. Beautiful. Had a super lunch there, too, at a little Basque restaurant whose name I unfortunately have already forgotten. Sheesh.

Lin! How nice to hear from you! It’s funny, I was in the little kitchen store just passed The French Corner Bakery (I’m sure that’s where you stopped) and Husband stepped into the bakery, “to see if they had any real French stuff.” I asked him what “real French stuff” was and he said it was those little cookies that I like so much. Macarons! They didn’t have any so Husband determined they weren’t REALLY French. Healdsburg is a lovely little town and a long drive from Topanga! The 4 Sisters Inns bought a hotel there, Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza, not too long ago. We haven’t stayed there as yet. Where did you stay? Hope you had fun!

And last weekend we drove north from Topanga, stopping for lunch in Santa Barbara and coffee at a darling little French café in Cambria (opposite Linn’s and a few shops further westwards). We shouldn’t really have stopped, knowing full well it would put us in more traffic on our way to Healdsburg. And then we passed that very same grass fire on the southbound side of the 101. As we whipped northwards and the southbound side traffic jam just grew longer and longer, I gave thanks that we weren’t in it. Had I known you were there, though, I would have flapped my hands out the window and screamed TAKE THE COAST ROAD, TAKE THE COAST ROAD!

sounds lovely! we too are headed to the coast this weekend for our first family trip…staying in gearhart at the ocean inn (real cute and quaint) and then some day trips to manzanita, seaside and astoria. looking forward to relaxing, eating well and most importantly not doing dishes, making the bed or laundry…yeah!

I have photos to post…….just a bit lazy and the process is cumbersome. The drive was pretty and it was a “beautiful day in the neighborhood” in the City. Everyone was out with their dogs and babies! Ice cream was delicious – I had salted caramel but would have liked about 10 other flavors, as well. More later.

I’d drive 120 miles for good ice cream. I’d drive 120 miles just to spend time with my husband too. I hope you have a good time!

I should be following your lead with the WW cookbook. I have made the menu for the week, but it’s full of fat-promoting dinners.

Wish there was an easy solution to all of your weedy problems.. Maybe time will answer some questions, and then you can figure out how to cope with the answers. Just remember you are not alone, even if it seems that way. Some problems will be solved, and some will drop away. But time will tell…. Have faith. God is still aware of us….. Pissed? maybe

Hi! Good to hear from you! I really like the 101 link – she has a huge following and offers gluten free options, too. I’ll take a look at that NYTimes link…..we need to eat more salad at our house….ahem. I’ll stop by your site later today – at work now. Your pool looks like a magainze shoot!
